Samsung is working on adding sleep apnea detection to the Health Monitor app for Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 6.

The detection tool will use the Galaxy Watch's BioActive Sensor to check blood oxygen levels during sleep.

Sleep apnea is a condition where a person stops breathing while sleeping, leading to lower sleep quality and potential health complications.

The smartwatch will analyze changes in blood oxygen values to determine the presence of apnea or hypopnea (slowed breathing).

The Apnea-Hypopnea Index (AHI) will be calculated to measure the severity of the condition.

Users will need to track their sleep twice within 10 days, with each sleep lasting longer than four hours, to obtain the AHI number.

The sleep apnea detection feature will initially be available only in South Korea, pending approval from the Korean government.

Samsung plans to expand the availability of sleep apnea detection to other countries in the future, as indicated by their collaboration with American medical groups and upcoming updates.
