In the last episode of Ahsoka, Ezra’s new blue sword could mean that he is now a Jedi Guardian and has returned to his roots as a Jedi.
The color change from green to blue shows how Ezra has grown as a Jedi.
As Jedi Guardians and Consulars, Ezra, and Luke are both very important in keeping the world safe during the New Republic Era.
In the last scene of Ahsoka, Ezra Bridger makes a new blue lightsaber that tells us what his part will be in future Star Wars movies. In Ahsoka episode 7, Ezra didn’t want to give Sabine Wren back his old blade at first. Instead, he used a special way to fight Shin Hati and Thrawn’s Night Troopers. With his faith in the Force and his skill at fighting with his hands, Ezra was able to beat many enemies. Even though he said the Force was all he needed, he had to use a blade again in the Ahsoka finale because it was his job as a Jedi.
A lot of things are important to Ezra about his new lightsaber hilt. Ezra’s new lightsaber color is a nod to his roots, and it also has something to do with the emitter that Kanan Jarrus used in Star Wars Rebels. A blue blade with a blaster clip was his first lightsaber in Rebels season 1. Darth Vader destroyed it on Malachor. This made him make Sabine Wren a green lightsaber, which she now has. It’s clear that Ezra has become a Jedi once again since his new lightsaber is blue. However, Star Wars Legends says that the change in color may have a greater meaning.
Ezra is a different kind of Jedi than Luke because he has a blue lightsaber.
According to Star Wars Legends, Jedi Guardians usually had blue lightsabers and Jedi Consulars usually had green ones. Luke Skywalker switched from a blue lightsaber to a green one in the first three movies. That’s not what Ezra does in Ahsoka. When Ezra used his green sword, it stood for his desire to learn more about the Force. By the end of Rebels, though, he had become more like a Jedi Guardian because he fought with the Rebellion against Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Ezra gives up his green lightsaber and dies, just like a Jedi Guardian would, at the end of Rebels to save Lothal and his friends from the Empire. Seeing how much he had changed as a Jedi may have made him give up his green saber since he knew it no longer marked his path as a Jedi. She is the only one who can help him make a blue lightsaber again since that color fits his new role in the world. As long as he has been on Peridea, Ezra has never stopped fighting Thrawn. He has shown that he is a true Jedi Guardian by using his fighting skills.
Luke’s and Ezra’s different colored lightsabers show what role they play in the galaxy.
Because of his blue lightsaber, Ezra is now one of the most important Jedi Guardians in the New Republic Era. His fight against Thrawn’s Resurgent Empire will not end now that he has joined forces with Hera Syndulla. Luke, meanwhile, has a green lightsaber that shows he has become a Jedi Consular and has mostly stopped fighting in the world. Luke is studying the history of the Jedi and wants to rebuild the Order. Ezra, on the other hand, is leading the fight against Thrawn and wants to beat him for good.
Even though Legends no longer talks about blade color meanings, Star Wars Canon still uses the idea of Jedi Consulars and Jedi Guardians. In the movie Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Rey tries to give Luke Skywalker back his blue blade at the end. In essence, she wants him to become a Jedi Guardian again and defend the world against the First Order. Luke, on the other hand, refuses to pick up a blue lightsaber and fight for the Resistance, but Ezra Bridger is happy to do so and fights for the New Republic.
For the Jedi to do well, they need both Consulars and Guardians.
Throughout its history, the Jedi Order needed both Consulars and Guardians to work right. Even during the Clone Wars, the Order needed Consulars like Yoda to stay close to the Temple and teach the next generation of Jedi. They also needed Guardians like Obi-Wan and Anakin to keep the peace on the front lines. Otherwise, the Order will end because neither job needs a strong Jedi. The Jedi need people to play both jobs more than ever in the New Republic Era.
As a Jedi Guardian, Ezra Bridger needs to stand up to Thrawn. If he doesn’t, Luke’s Jedi Temple on Ossus will be in danger. In the same way, the Jedi Order would not grow for a while if Luke quit his job as a Consular and joined the fight against Thrawn. Instead, Ezra and Luke work together to protect the world and teach the next generation of Jedi, even though they don’t know each other. They are both very important to the future of Star Wars in the New Republic Era. Ezra’s new blade color in Ahsoka is just the beginning of what’s to come for his character.
