Castlevania: Nocturne premiered on Netflix on September 28, and the service swiftly renewed it. The Konami property has become one of Netflix’s most successful video game adaptations. The first anime adaptation aired for four full seasons.
The events of Nocturne take place roughly 300 years after the events of the first Castlevania game, during the French Revolution. Both Castlevania: Rondo of Blood (1993) and Symphony of the Night (1997) served as inspiration for this work. In Nocturne, a Caribbean sorceress named Annette teams up with Richter Belmont, the sole surviving member of a legendary dynasty of vampire hunters. A Vampire messiah linked with the counter-revolutionary elite is their common enemy, and they must work together to defeat him.
Castlevania creator Clive Bradley and co-showrunner Kevin Kolde thanked “all the Castlevania fans, old and new, for the fantastic response and support.” We’re thrilled to present you the next chapter in Richter Belmont’s ascent in “Castlevania: Nocturne.”
Nocturne has been a top 10 English TV show ever since it first aired. In addition, 40 countries all placed the series in their top 10 lists. Critics have been less kind to Nocturne than they were to the original series. Nocturne has a 7.7 rating on IMDB, whereas the original holds an 8.3 score.
Powerhouse Animation and Project 51 Productions have renewed their contract to produce Castlevania: Nocturne on Netflix. Production has started already.
